Be Bear Aware. Yes, Even in Applewood

High bear activity and sightings have been reported in and around Golden, including in Applewood, Mesa View Estates, Table Rock, and other parts of unincorporated Jeffco. Bears are being seen in residential areas due to drought conditions applying pressure to natural food sources.

If a bear comes near your home, do your best to safely chase it away. Yell, blow a whistle, clap your hands, shake a tin can full of coins or rocks, or make other loud noises — but never approach a bear. Discourage bear habituation by removing or securely storing trash cans, barbecue grills, bird feeders, and pet food. Lock car doors and roll up windows. Report bear activity to Jefferson County's Non-Emergency Dispatch at 303-980-7300, or online at the link below.

You can find more information about living with bears from Colorado Parks & Wildlife.
