New South Table Mountain Trail to Open Late May

A new multi-use trail is coming to South Table Mountain Park. The T-Rex Tooth Trail will provide 1.5-miles of new soft surface trail and create a new 3-mile loop opportunity when connected with Fossil Trail, Old Quarry Trail, and Basalt Cap Loop. Trail construction started in Fall 2025, and the trail is expected to open to the public in late May.

The trail is named for a major discovery made here in 1874, when a student of geologist Arthur Lakes found the first known T. rex tooth in North America, though it wasn’t correctly identified until 2000. Along the route, visitors can also experience the historic Colorado Amphitheater, a natural stone structure built in 1935 for Camp George West. Interpretive signs will highlight the area’s history.

This new trail started construction in 2025 and is the result of a strong community effort, with 318 volunteers contributing 1,316 hours to bring it to life.
