Speed & Red Light Cameras Expand in Wheat Ridge

The City of Wheat Ridge has activated its latest speed camera on the stretch of Kipling Street between 32nd and 34th Avenues. Initially, the camera will generate warnings to excessive speeders, with $40 tickets issued starting Aug. 5.

Wheat Ridge has adopted speed and red light cameras as part of the city’s effort to slow traffic speeds and improve pedestrian safety, especially near parks and schools. The city has speed and red light cameras at

-W 32nd Ave. and Independence Ct. near Wheat Ridge High School

-W 44th Ave. near Prospect Park

-W 44th Ave. near Hopper Hollow Park

-Kipling St. between W 32nd Ave. and W 34th Ave.

-Red-light camera at Kipling St. and W 44th Ave.

-Red-light camera at Wadsworth Blvd. and W 32nd Ave.

The Wheat Ridge Police Department has established Kipling St. and Wadsworth Blvd. as speed corridors, meaning officers can run a mobile version of these cameras, known the Dragon-Eye Camera, on these corridors for enforcement, in addition to neighborhood streets, parks, schools and construction zones. A Dragon-Eye is currently also positioned at Prospect Park on W 44th Ave.

The Wheat Ridge Police Department has a uniformed officer verify each violation and contracts with a third-party company to collect payments. If you receive a notice in the mail and there is an option to send payments to a P.O. Box in Pasadena California, this is not a scam.
